Red Line riders can expect longer travel times on the Braintree Branch nightly from 8 PM, to end of service. This is to allow for critical signal work near JFK/UMass.

How Long Will the Work Take: To accomplish this work, four phases of temporary evening service changes will continue through April. Each phase should take about two weeks to complete. How Much Longer Will my Trip Be: Riders should budget an additional 10 – 15 minutes of travel time during this work. When is the Next Phase: Beginning March 12 with longer travel times on the Ashmont Branch. Why are we Doing This: This work is part of a signal modernization project in Columbia Junction near JFK/UMass. Signals in this area were significantly damaged by a derailment in 2019.

On Sunday, March 15th, South Station Commuter Rail Lines will run on a modified weekend schedule. Bikes/scooters will not be allowed on board any Commuter Rail train or shuttle bus due to heavy St. Patrick's Day parade ridership.

Route 350 service change beginning Sunday, April 5. All trips will serve Burlington Mall Rd. between North Burlington and Alewife.

Route 40 service change beginning Sunday, April 5. More service will be provided between Georgetowne and Forest Hills.

Route 50 service change beginning Sunday, April 5. More service will be provided between Cleary Square and Forest Hills.

Route 87 service change beginning Sunday, April 5, trips will extend to Arlington Center. This change provides more service in Arlington on weekday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sundays.

All Route 87 trips will travel between Lechmere and Arlington Center. The route pattern that ends at Clarendon Hill will be discontinued.

Route 85 service change beginning Sunday, April 5, the new route 85 will replace the CT2, with new service between Ruggles and Assembly.

Here's What To Know: We’re combining routes CT2 and 85 into the new Route 85, with service between Ruggles, Kendall/MIT, Spring Hill, Sullivan Square, and Assembly. The “CT2” route name will be retired. These stops will no longer be served by Route 85 (Use Rt 87 or the Green Line instead): Somerville Ave @ Hawkins St Bow St @ Warren Ave 51 Bow St Service between Bow St and Spring Hill, which was paused for construction in 2023, will be discontinued permanently.

The combined route 40/50 trips will be discontinued beginning Sunday, April 5, and will run as separate routes. All Route 40 trips will travel between Georgetowne and Forest Hills. All Route 50 trips will travel between Cleary Sq and Forest Hills.

Route CT2 will be discontinued beginning Sun, Apr 5, 2026. The CT2 will be combined with the new route 85 with service between Ruggles and Assembly. All existing CT2 stops will be served by the new route 85.

Here’s What to Expect: We’re combining routes CT2 and 85 into the new Route 85, with new service between Ruggles and Assembly. The “CT2” route name will be retired but your stops aren't moving, your bus route will just have a new name: Route 85.

Braintree Elevator 811 (Red Line platform to lobby) unavailable on Thu Mar 12 due to maintenance

A shuttle bus will be available to transport customers between Braintree and Quincy Adams. To exit, exit the train at Quincy Adams and find station personnel or use a station call box to request the shuttle bus to Braintree. To board, find station personnel or use a station call box at Braintree to request the shuttle bus to Quincy Adams. Alternatively, customers may also use Bus Routes 230 and 236 for transportation between Braintree and Quincy Center.

The access road between Summer Street and Abington MBTA lot will be closed for improvements on Monday 3/23 and Tuesday 3/24. Access road will reopen on Wednesday 3/25. Vehicles will need to enter/exit the parking lot from Centre Ave.

Broadway Elevator 868 (Lobby to street) unavailable from March 16 through May 25 due to maintenance.

The elevator will be closed for major equipment upgrades that will significantly improve the long-term reliability of this elevator. A shuttle bus will be available to transport riders between Broadway and Andrew. To exit: take the train to Andrew and find station personnel or use a station call box to request the shuttle bus to Broadway. Special St. Patrick's Day shuttle bus service will be available to and from South Station and South Boston from 9:30 AM to 5 PM on Sunday, March 15.

The last trip back to South Station will leave at 4:30 PM: Shuttles to South Boston: Pick up at Summer St @ Atlantic Ave Drop off at E 1st St @ City Point Bus Terminal. Shuttles to South Station: Pick up at E 1st St @ City Point Bus Terminal Drop off at Summer St @ Atlantic Ave.

On the weekends of March 21-22 and March 28-29, Red and Green Line will replace train service on the Fitchburg Line between North Station and Porter.

Littleton/Route 495 passengers can expect occasional traffic and detours accessing the station due to the Foster Street reconstruction work.

Scheduled to complete sometime in 2027, the Reconstruction of Foster Street includes widening and resurfacing with the addition of bicycle lanes.

South Acton Elevator 705 (Track 2 (Boston platform) to pedestrian bridge) out of service.

To travel from the North Station platform to the Fitchburg platform, travel east on Maple St towards Main St. At Main St, turn left and continue to Railroad St. At Railroad St, turn left and continue to the station, where a ramp to the Fitchburg platform is located next the small parking lot. To travel from the Fitchburg platform to the North Station platform, travel to the east end of the platform and proceed down the ramp to the small parking lot. Continue east on Railroad St to Main St. At Main St, turn right and continue to Maple St. At Maple St, turn right and continue to the walkway that leads to the platform.

Winchester Center Elevator 749 (Track 1 (outbound platform) to Main St) is out of service. Please use the ramp or elevator 748 from Track 1 to Waterfield St. parking.

Please use nearby Winchester Center Elevator 748.

Worcester Elevator 781 (Platform to pedestrian bridge) unavailable. Please use the elevator in the main building at 2 Washington Sq.

There is no accessible path connecting the inbound and outbound platforms at Wellesley Square Station. The existing path includes steep slopes and is long. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

There are accessible mini-high platforms at the Western end of both the Track 1 and Track 2 sides. However, the existing pedestrian path between the two sides is long and includes steep slopes, especially on the Crest Road bridge over the tracks. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

The Riverside Ave entrance at Campello Station is currently closed. Passengers may continue to use the Plain St entrance.

Hingham/Hull Ferry: Portions of the Town of Hull parking lot at the Hull ferry terminal are blocked off for sewer pump station construction work. More information is available at https://www.town.hull.ma.us/

Market St @ Tremont St (inbound & outbound) is closed until further notice due to construction. Riders of the 426, 429, 441, 442, 455 can board at S Common St @ Market St. Riders of the 435 can board at Tremont St opp St Mary's High School.

Jackson Square: The platform is undergoing renovations to improve safety and accessibility. Sections of the platform are unlevel, which may make it difficult for some riders to board and exit trains.

Jackson Square: The stairway connecting the Jackson Sq lobby and the south end of the platform is closed until winter 2026. Use the stairway at the north end of the platform. This closure is for the construction of a new stairway and a second elevator.

Construction is ongoing in the Hingham Parking lot and on Shipyard Drive in preparation for the Hingham Ferry Dock upgrades. There is reduced parking in the lot, and portions of Shipyard Drive and driveways to and from the parking lot are affected

Routes 71 and 73 are detoured due to construction. The nearest connections are Mt Auburn St @ Mt Auburn Hospital or Mt Auburn St @ Traill St.

South Station Pedal & Park is closed due to construction. Bicycle racks are currently available on Atlantic Ave adjacent to the South Station main entrance.

State Escalator 6 (Oak Grove platform to Old State House lobby) unavailable

Andrew Escalator 123 (Ashmont/Braintree platform to busway) is unavailable until further notice pending replacement.

Oak Grove Escalator 105 (Commuter Rail platform to unpaid lobby) unavailable

Courthouse Escalator 417 (Airport/Design Center platform to south lobby) unavailable due to ongoing construction at the station.

Bowdoin Escalator 125 (Lobby to street) is unavailable until further notice pending replacement.

The escalator will remain out of service for the foreseeable future. This decision was made after a thorough inspection determined that corrosion on the escalator’s steel truss was so severe that it could not be repaired further and that a complete replacement of the escalator would be required. Replacing the escalator at this location requires a more extended unit meeting modern escalator safety requirements. This longer unit will require significant alteration to the station entrance to meet code requirements. The MBTA has currently begun design work to understand what station upgrades will be needed. Due to these complexities, we expect the escalator will remain out of service for a significant time. We recognize the challenges this poses to our riders, and please know we are working to identify a solution as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Government Center Station, which is fully accessible and serves the Blue Line, is under a quarter-mile from Bowdoin Station.
