Red Line riders can expect longer travel times nightly from 8 PM to end of service. Beginning on March 26, regular service will operate between Braintree and JFK/UMass. For continued service, please transfer to an Alewife-Ashmont train at JFK/UMass.

How long will the work take: To accomplish this work, two more phases of evening service changes will continue through April. Each phase should take about two weeks to complete. How much longer will my trip be: Riders should budget an additional 10 – 15 minutes of travel time during this work. When is the next phase: Likely beginning April 9, with regular service operating between Ashmont and JFK/UMass. For service beyond JFK/UMass, transfer to an Alewife-Braintree train at JFK/UMass. Why are we doing this: This work is part of a signal modernization project in Columbia Junction near JFK/UMass. Signals in this area were significantly damaged by a derailment in 2019.

On the weekend of April 11-12, shuttle buses will replace service on the Newburyport/Rockport Line between North Station and Beverly.

Orange Line: Trains in both directions will operate on a single track between Oak Grove and Wellington on Sunday, April 5, from 6:30 PM to the end of service. This is to allow for critical switch work.

Shuttle Train Information: All Orange Line train service between Oak Grove and Wellington will operate with a shuttle train on the northbound track that operates approximately every 15 minutes. A shuttle train operates back and forth on a single track. The shuttle train only operates between Oak Grove and Wellington. Riders travelling beyond Wellington will need to transfer between the shuttle train and regular Orange Line train service (across the platform at Wellington). Orange Line train service between Forest Hills and Wellington will operate as normal, approximately every 9 – 10 minutes. Additional Travel Time: Riders will experience longer wait times and should allow extra travel time. Riders should note that shuttle buses will not be offered as an alternative during this service change (because shuttle trains will be operating).

Beginning Sunday, April 5, all Route 350 trips will serve Burlington Mall Rd between North Burlington and Alewife.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, all Route 87 trips will extend to Arlington Center. This change provides more service in Arlington on weekday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sundays.

All Route 87 trips will travel between Lechmere and Arlington Center. The route pattern that ends at Clarendon Hill will be discontinued.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, the combined Route 40/50 will be permanently discontinued and will run as separate routes. All Route 40 trips will travel between Georgetowne and Forest Hills. All Route 50 trips will travel between Cleary Sq and Forest Hills.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, Route CT2 will be permanently discontinued. The CT2 will be combined with the existing Route 85 into a new Route 85, with service between Ruggles and Assembly. All existing CT2 stops will be served by the new Route 85.

Here’s what to expect: We’re combining Routes CT2 and 85 into the new Route 85, with new service between Ruggles and Assembly. The “CT2” route name will be retired but your stops aren't moving; your bus route will just have a new name: Route 85.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, the new Route 85 will replace the CT2, with new service between Ruggles and Assembly.

Here's what to know: We’re combining routes CT2 and 85 into the new Route 85, with service between Ruggles, Kendall/MIT, Spring Hill, Sullivan Square, and Assembly. The “CT2” route name will be retired. Malden Center Escalator 312 (Street level to Commuter Rail platform) unavailable due to maintenance.

The stairway connecting the Jackson Square lobby and the south end of the platform is closed until winter 2026. Use the stairway at the north end of the platform. This closure is for the construction of a new stairway and a second elevator.

This decision was made after a thorough inspection determined that corrosion on the escalator’s steel truss was so severe that it could not be repaired further and that a complete replacement of the escalator would be required. Replacing the escalator at this location requires a more extended unit meeting modern escalator safety requirements. This longer unit will require significant alteration to the station entrance to meet code requirements. The MBTA has currently begun design work to understand what station upgrades will be needed. Due to these complexities, we expect the escalator will remain out of service for a significant time. We recognize the challenges this poses to our riders, and please know we are working to identify a solution as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Government Center Station, which is fully accessible and serves the Blue Line, is under a quarter-mile from Bowdoin Station.

The platform at Jackson Square is undergoing renovations to improve safety and accessibility. Sections of the platform are unlevel, which may make it difficult for some riders to board and exit trains.

From March through June, 2026, Wickford Junction Garage will be undergoing renovation. Visitors can expect one level at a time to be inaccessible as crews work to complete each floor.

To accommodate Providence Station Renovations, construction barriers have been installed and the Southern stairwell to Track 1 is out of service. Staircase access to Track 3 and Track 5 are now open.

Littleton/Route 495 passengers can expect occasional traffic and detours accessing the station due to the Foster Street reconstruction work.

To travel from the North Station platform to the Fitchburg platform, travel east on Maple St towards Main St. At Main St, turn left and continue to Railroad St. At Railroad St, turn left and continue to the station, where a ramp to the Fitchburg platform is located next the small parking lot. To travel from the Fitchburg platform to the North Station platform, travel to the east end of the platform and proceed down the ramp to the small parking lot. Continue east on Railroad St to Main St. At Main St, turn right and continue to Maple St. At Maple St, turn right and continue to the walkway that leads to the platform.

There is no accessible path connecting the inbound and outbound platforms at Wellesley Square Station. The existing path includes steep slopes and is long. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

There are accessible mini-high platforms at the Western end of both the Track 1 and Track 2 sides. However, the existing pedestrian path between the two sides is long and includes steep slopes, especially on the Crest Road bridge over the tracks. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

The Riverside Ave entrance at Campello Station is currently closed. Passengers may continue to use the Plain St entrance.
