Red Line riders can expect longer travel times on the Ashmont Branch nightly from 8 PM, to end of service. This is to allow for critical signal work near JFK/UMass.

How long will the work take: To accomplish this work, three more phases of evening service changes will continue through April. Each phase should take about two weeks to complete. How much longer will my trip be: Riders should budget an additional 10 – 15 minutes of travel time during this work. When is the next phase: Likely beginning March 29, with regular service operating between Braintree and JFK/UMass. For service beyond JFK/UMass, transfer to an Alewife-Ashmont train at JFK/UMass. Why are we doing this: This work is part of a signal modernization project in Columbia Junction near JFK/UMass. Signals in this area were significantly damaged by a derailment in 2019.

Green St @ Magazine St (inbound) is closed through Sunday, March 22, due to roadway construction. Please use Western Ave @ Green St.

On the weekends of Friday, March 20-22 & Friday, March 27-29, shuttle buses will replace service on the Newburyport/Rockport Line between North Station and Swampscott.

• Local and express shuttle buses will be available. • This is to accommodate signal improvement work. • A diversion schedule will be in effect. • An express shuttle will operate nonstop between North Station and Swampscott. • A local shuttle will operate between North Station and Swampscott, making all local stops. • Riders using the shuttle buses should budget extra travel time. For example, a rider traveling to North Station from Swampscott should budget up to 40 minutes additional travel on the express shuttle and up to 70 minutes additional travel on the local shuttle. For example, a rider traveling to North Station from Porter should budget at least 20 minutes of travel in addition to their regular trip time.

On March 20-22 & 27-29 and April 10-12 & 24-27, Orange Line will replace service on the Haverhill Line between North Station and Oak Grove.

• This is to allow signal improvement work. • A diversion schedule will be in effect. • Passengers can use the Orange Line for service between North Station and Oak Grove. • There will be normal Commuter Rail weekend train service between Oak Grove and Haverhill. • There will be no shuttle buses provided for this diversion. • Riders using the Orange Line should budget extra travel time. For example, a rider traveling to North Station from Oak Grove should budget at least 10 minutes of travel in addition to their regular trip time.

JFK/UMass Escalator 322 (Ashmont platform to Columbia Road) unavailable due to maintenance

Beginning Sunday, April 5, the new Route 85 will replace the CT2, with new service between Ruggles and Assembly.

Here's what to know: We’re combining routes CT2 and 85 into the new Route 85, with service between Ruggles, Kendall/MIT, Spring Hill, Sullivan Square, and Assembly. The “CT2” route name will be retired. These stops will no longer be served by Route 85: Main St @ Kendall Station - Red Line (Use the stop at Galileo Way @ Main St for outbound service) Somerville Ave @ Hawkins St (Use Rt 87 or Green Line instead) Bow St @ Warren Ave (Use Rt 87 or Green Line instead) 51 Bow St (Use Rt 87 or Green Line instead) Additionally: Service between Bow St and Spring Hill, which was paused for construction in 2023, will be discontinued permanently.

Route 85 outbound will no longer service the stop at Main St @ Kendall Station - Red Line beginning on Sunday, April 5. Riders can use the stop at Galileo Way @ Main St.

On Thursday, March 26, on the Franklin/Foxboro Line will operate on a modified weekday schedule to support Friendly Match Foxboro Event Service.

• Fairmount Line trains will operate every 60 to 90 minutes after 12 PM on March 26. • Train 1627 (the 10:17 AM train from South Station to Readville) will terminate at Fairmount. • Train 1638 (the 11 AM train from Readville to South Station) will originate at Fairmount at 11:03 AM. • After 12 PM, all trains will originate and terminate at Fairmount and will not service Readville.

On Thursday, March 26, on the Providence/Stoughton Line will operate on a modified weekday schedule to support Friendly Match Foxboro Event Service.

• Train 972 (the 7:18 PM train from Stoughton to South Station) will operate via the Fairmount Line making all stops between Fairmount and South Station. • All other trains will operate according to their normal schedules.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, all Route 350 trips will serve Burlington Mall Rd between North Burlington and Alewife.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, all Route 40 trips will travel between Georgetowne and Forest Hills.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, all Route 87 trips will extend to Arlington Center. This change provides more service in Arlington on weekday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sundays.

All Route 87 trips will travel between Lechmere and Arlington Center. The route pattern that ends at Clarendon Hill will be discontinued.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, all Route 50 trips will travel between Cleary Square and Forest Hills.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, the combined Route 40/50 will be permanently discontinued and will run as separate routes. All Route 40 trips will travel between Georgetowne and Forest Hills. All Route 50 trips will travel between Cleary Sq and Forest Hills.

Beginning Sunday, April 5, Route CT2 will be permanently discontinued. The CT2 will be combined with the existing Route 85 into a new Route 85, with service between Ruggles and Assembly. All existing CT2 stops will be served by the new Route 85.

The access road between Summer St and the Abington MBTA lot will be closed for improvements on Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24. The access road will reopen on Wednesday, March 25. Vehicles will need to enter/exit the parking lot from Centre Ave.

On March 26, riders going to the Brazil vs. France match should be at South Station at the specified time for their boarding group: Group A at 12 PM and Group B at 12:30 PM. Train departure times are estimates and subject to change.

Courthouse Escalator 412 (Lobby to mezzanine) unavailable due to maintenance

Tufts Medical Center Escalator 146 (Oak Grove platform to Washington Street lobby) unavailable from Mon Mar 9 through Fri Mar 20 due to maintenance

Massachusetts Ave @ Wendell St (outbound) Bus Stop has moved about 100 feet south, from 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM on weekdays only, until further notice due to construction.

From March through June, 2026, Wickford Junction Garage will be undergoing renovation. Visitors can expect one level at a time to be inaccessible as crews work to complete each floor.

To accommodate Providence Station Renovations, construction barriers have been installed and the Southern stairwell to Track 1 is out of service. Staircase access to Track 3 and Track 5 are now open.

Massachusetts Avenue Escalator 139 (Platform to paid lobby) unavailable due to maintenance

Central Escalator 360 (Alewife platform to street) unavailable through Fri Mar 27 due to maintenance

Littleton/Route 495 passengers can expect occasional traffic and detours accessing the station due to the Foster Street reconstruction work.

Scheduled to complete sometime in 2027, the Reconstruction of Foster Street includes widening and resurfacing with the addition of bicycle lanes.

South Acton Elevator 705 (Track 2 (Boston platform) to pedestrian bridge) out of service.

To travel from the North Station platform to the Fitchburg platform, travel east on Maple St towards Main St. At Main St, turn left and continue to Railroad St. At Railroad St, turn left and continue to the station, where a ramp to the Fitchburg platform is located next the small parking lot. To travel from the Fitchburg platform to the North Station platform, travel to the east end of the platform and proceed down the ramp to the small parking lot. Continue east on Railroad St to Main St. At Main St, turn right and continue to Maple St. At Maple St, turn right and continue to the walkway that leads to the platform.

Worcester Elevator 781 (Platform to pedestrian bridge) unavailable. Please use the elevator in the main building at 2 Washington Sq.

There is no accessible path connecting the inbound and outbound platforms at Wellesley Square Station. The existing path includes steep slopes and is long. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

There are accessible mini-high platforms at the Western end of both the Track 1 and Track 2 sides. However, the existing pedestrian path between the two sides is long and includes steep slopes, especially on the Crest Road bridge over the tracks. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

The Riverside Ave entrance at Campello Station is currently closed. Passengers may continue to use the Plain St entrance.

Route 435 detoured outbound due to construction. Connections are available at Neptune Blvd @ Blossom St and Lynn Station.

Hingham/Hull Ferry: Portions of the Town of Hull parking lot at the Hull ferry terminal are blocked off for sewer pump station construction work. More information is available at https://www.town.hull.ma.us/

Market St @ Tremont St (inbound & outbound) is closed until further notice due to construction. Riders of the 426, 429, 441, 442, 455 can board at S Common St @ Market St. Riders of the 435 can board at Tremont St opp St Mary's High School.

Jackson Square: The platform is undergoing renovations to improve safety and accessibility. Sections of the platform are unlevel, which may make it difficult for some riders to board and exit trains.

Jackson Square: The stairway connecting the Jackson Sq lobby and the south end of the platform is closed until winter 2026. Use the stairway at the north end of the platform. This closure is for the construction of a new stairway and a second elevator.

Construction is ongoing in the Hingham Parking lot and on Shipyard Drive in preparation for the Hingham Ferry Dock upgrades. There is reduced parking in the lot, and portions of Shipyard Drive and driveways to and from the parking lot are affected

Routes 71 and 73 are detoured due to construction. The nearest connections are Mt Auburn St @ Mt Auburn Hospital or Mt Auburn St @ Traill St.

South Station Pedal & Park is closed due to construction. Bicycle racks are currently available on Atlantic Ave adjacent to the South Station main entrance.

State Escalator 6 (Oak Grove platform to Old State House lobby) unavailable

Andrew Escalator 123 (Ashmont/Braintree platform to busway) is unavailable until further notice pending replacement.

Oak Grove Escalator 105 (Commuter Rail platform to unpaid lobby) unavailable

Courthouse Escalator 417 (Airport/Design Center platform to south lobby) unavailable due to ongoing construction at the station.

Courthouse Escalator 415 (Airport/Design Center platform to lobby) unavailable due to ongoing construction at the station.

Bowdoin Escalator 125 (Lobby to street) is unavailable until further notice pending replacement.

The escalator will remain out of service for the foreseeable future. This decision was made after a thorough inspection determined that corrosion on the escalator’s steel truss was so severe that it could not be repaired further and that a complete replacement of the escalator would be required. Replacing the escalator at this location requires a more extended unit meeting modern escalator safety requirements. This longer unit will require significant alteration to the station entrance to meet code requirements. The MBTA has currently begun design work to understand what station upgrades will be needed. Due to these complexities, we expect the escalator will remain out of service for a significant time. We recognize the challenges this poses to our riders, and please know we are working to identify a solution as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Government Center Station, which is fully accessible and serves the Blue Line, is under a quarter-mile from Bowdoin Station.
