Green Line E Branch: Symphony station will be closed for major accessibility upgrades beginning June 6. Riders can use Prudential or Northeastern to access E Branch service. Construction is expected to last approximately 3 years.

Alternate Service Options: • Riders who typically board or disembark at Symphony can instead board or disembark at Northeastern University or Prudential, which are 0.3 miles away (or about a five-minute walk) from Symphony. • Riders are encouraged to instead consider travelling on the Orange Line at Massachusetts Avenue, which is 0.1 miles (or about a three-minute walk) from Symphony. • Riders may also use the Route 39, which operates parallel to the E branch in both directions along Huntington Avenue. Background: Currently, there are no step-free pathways from the entrances to the platforms at Symphony, and the station is not able to be accessed by people with wheeled mobility devices. When construction is complete in spring 2029, Symphony will be enhanced with four new accessible elevators, raised platforms for easier boarding, accessible bathrooms, improved wayfinding, more lighting, and upgraded safety features, making the station safer and easier to use for all riders. Braintree branch riders: Regular service will operate between JFK/UMass and Braintree, but riders must take a shuttle bus between Broadway and JFK/UMass. Accessibility: Free and accessible shuttle buses will operate between Broadway and Ashmont. Accessible van service will be available between Broadway and Ashmont. Jackson Square Elevator 846 (Platform to paid lobby) will be unavailable from Wed, May 27 through Fri, May 29 due to maintenance.

A shuttle bus will be available to transport customers between Jackson Square and Stony Brook. To exit, exit the train at Stony Brook and find station personnel or use a station call box to request the shuttle bus to Jackson Square. Mattapan Line: Shuttle buses replace service between Ashmont and Mattapan beginning at 6 PM on Thursday, May 14, until the end of service on Saturday, May 16, for maintenance work.

The escalator will remain out of service for the foreseeable future. This decision was made after a thorough inspection determined that corrosion on the escalator’s steel truss was so severe that it could not be repaired further and that a complete replacement of the escalator would be required. Replacing the escalator at this location requires a more extended unit meeting modern escalator safety requirements. This longer unit will require significant alteration to the station entrance to meet code requirements. The MBTA has currently begun design work to understand what station upgrades will be needed. Due to these complexities, we expect the escalator will remain out of service for a significant time. We recognize the challenges this poses to our riders, and please know we are working to identify a solution as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Government Center Station, which is fully accessible and serves the Blue Line, is under a quarter-mile from Bowdoin Station.

There is no accessible path connecting the inbound and outbound platforms at Wellesley Square Station. The existing path includes steep slopes and is long. Designs are underway to provide for a fully compliant pathway.

There are accessible mini-high platforms at the Western end of both the Track 1 and Track 2 sides. However, the existing pedestrian path between the two sides is long and includes steep slopes, especially on the Crest Road bridge over the tracks. The Riverside Ave entrance at Campello Station is currently closed. Passengers may continue to use the Plain St entrance.
